5000 Years Old Science

Ayurveda means wisdom of life and is derived from two Sanskrit words ayus and veda. Ayus meaning life and veda meaning wisdom. Ayurveda is considered by many scholars as the oldest healing science.

It originated in India over 5000 years ago and is often called the "Mother of All Healing". It stems from ancient vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition by accomplished masters to their disciples.

Ayurveda traces its origin to the Vedas - the atharva veda in particular. Early works of Ayurveda include Sushrutha samahitha of Sushrutha and Charaka samahitha attributed to Charaka.

The Chinese pilgrim to India, Fa Hsien wrote about the healthcare system of the Gupta period (280 AD - 550 AD) and in the process described the institutional approach of the Indian medical system. This approach is also visible in the works of Charaka who mentions a clinic and how it should be equipped.
